10,000 Top Passwords

July 13, 2012

Try this on for size! Of a list of 10,000 passwords tested, 79% were in the top 500 and 91% were in the top 1000. What does that mean? Well, if a hacker is trying to break into your accounts, he could try this relatively small list of password and chances are he would have control of your account. Way too easy if you ask me.

If you care to protect your information, remember these three things about passwords.

1. Use a passphrase instead of a password.

2. Substitute some characters for phonetic or visual equivalents.

3. Use the whole keyboard. Text (upper and lower dase), numbers, and symbols.

Safe computing!

Computer Users Finally Paying Attention to DNS-Changer

July 6, 2012

We have been advising our customers and friends to make sure they check their computers for the DNS Changer malware. The news have run stories about it over the last few days and we are getting calls about how to check whether one’s computer is infected.
The easiest way to check is to simply go to http://www.dns-ok.us/ If you see a GREEN box you are clear. If you see RED you will need to remove the malicious program from your system if you don’t want to be without internet starting Monday July 9th.

You can check out one of many stories here. It includes a video demonstrating the checker above.

Give it a try and be safe!

Green Box

A GREEN box indicates your systems is clear of the DNS-Changer malware. If you see a RED box, your system won’t be able to access the internet from Monday July 9th.
