I come across lots of great quotes. As you know they are common on twitter and facebook, and usually, most of them fail to grab one’s attention at the time. This one however, attributed to the futurist John Schaar really set some bells going when I read it. Maybe it is because I generally subscribe to the notion that we make our own destiny. Maybe it is because I have been thinking about what my own future will look like. Or, maybe it is because it is still early in the year and I am still thinking about the results obtained from my efforts in the past year. Whatever the reason, it resonated with me and I have chosen to make it my theme for the remainder of 2011.
“The future is not a result of choices among alternative paths offered by the present, but a place that is created–created first in the mind and will, created next in activity. The future is not some place we are going to, but one we are creating. The paths are not to be found, but made, and the activity of making them, changes both the maker and the destination. -John Schaar.”
